iPhone 4S iOS 5 Unlock Released

Airplane Mode on

The founder of Chronic Dev, a team of hackers dedicated to jailbreak and unlock everything with an Apple logo on it, has revealed on Twitter that someone has managed to unlock the iPhone 4S without actually having to jailbreak first.

The person in question, going by the screen name of danielscaleb, apparently found a bug in Apple’s iOS 5 that you can take advantage of and unlock the newest iPhone model.

“After a little playing around, I confirmed that a certain iOS 5 bug leads to an unlock,”  danielscaleb writes. “Note, this will only work on GSM models.”

Apparently an untethered jailbreak is not required. In fact, not even a tethered jailbreak is necessary to achieve this, according to the instructions.

“I’m going to figure out CDMA models next,” adds danielscaleb. “Basically, you’ll need a GSM iPhone 4S, an AT&T SIM card, and a T-Mobile Micro SIM. Also, you could actually mess up your cellular radio doing this, though its very unlikely.”

The steps required to achieve the unlock, posted over at pastebin.com, are reproduced below.

We take no responsibility if you mess up your device by proceeding with the hack. This news piece is solely for informational purposes (basically, that’s the definition of news).

1. Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card
2. Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
3. Turn on Airplane Mode
4. Take out AT&T SIM card
5. Insert T-Mobile SIM card
6. Make sure WiFi is off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later)
7. Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
8. Activation Required will be displayed on the screen
9. EDGE network will activate automatically – notice the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen
10. Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off the phone
11. Turn on iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed
12. When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection
13. Eject SIM card
14. Activation Required screen will be displayed the second time
15. Insert SIM card
16. Unlocked!

Major Lip-Sync Flub on Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

It's a known fact that all the performers on Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade lip-sync because it would be impossible for them to perform live for technical reasons. However, few have failed at it like Scotty McCreery.

Mishaps have happened before at the popular event, but never quite so awkward.

The newly-minted American Idol has become the laughing stock of most celebrity bloggers after getting a very late start during his performance at the Parade.

Basically what happened was that Scotty took a few seconds to mime singing, even though the track was already playing, as the video below will show.

Again, it's common knowledge that there's only lip-syncing at the Parade – but that's not to say performers are not required to make an honest effort to make it seem real.

Check it out.

new 28nm NVIDIA GPU Roadmap Revealed

NVIDIA GPU roadmap

Leaks and rumors about what NVIDIA has in store have not been absent, but one has finally arisen that provides the exact plans of the company in regards to the 28nm manufacturing process.

28nm is the technology that both Advanced Micro Devices and NVIDIA rely on for their new series of graphics processing units (GPUs).
This report has now shown precisely how NVIDIA plans to have its Kepler advance.

The high-end chip will have a smaller die than the massive Fermi and will bear the name GK104.

With 384-bit memory support, it can churn out 2 TFLOPS (30% more than GTX 580) and will be ready by the middle of next year.

Unfortunately, the prowess comes at the price of a high power consumption, 250W, which makes one wonder how much energy the GK110, a dual GX104, will need (will appear soon after).

Much sooner than GK104 will arrive the GK107, the first model as it were, which is a notebook part, with a memory interface of 128 bits and PCI Express 2 support (other GK chips have PCI Express Generation 3 support).

The GK106 will come second, a mid-range GPU, featuring 256-bit memory. Along with the GX107, it will show up at some point during the second quarter of 2012.

So far, the Santa Clara company seems to have similar designs as AMD, but the similarities end at the end of 2012 / early 2013, when NVIDIA will again launch a GPU with a massive die: GX112, with 512-bit memory.

So far, things sound optimistic, but there is always a catch and, in this case, it is TSMC that might cause disruptions to this plan, as well as AMD's own.

Many fear that the nightmare behind the 40nm low chip yields, which hit both companies very hard last year, will repeat with 28nm.

The first signs are already showing
in fact, as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is already experiencing a high demand while producing only 20,000 units per month.
