Time when you admit in public to use online dating sites to meet new people and feel ashamed for it is gone. A new study has shown that this is the second most popular method used today to find Mr. or Mrs. Right.

In fact, before the Internet, people used to meet with friends and family or, at best, by chance, today, if we are offline, we can almost smell our chances of finding true love goodbye.

At least, that's the conclusion of a new study from the University of Rochester in the United States as quoted by Eureka: online dating can really help you find true love.

"Online dating definitely takes a new twist and a lot on relationships," says Harry Reis, one of the authors of the study and professor of psychology at the University of Rochester,.

This explains why so many Americans use the service in hopes of meeting new people, people they might find true love with.

"The Internet holds great promise to help adults form healthy romantic partnerships and support, and that relationship is one of the best predictors of emotional and physical health," said Reis.

There is a big "if" here though: while online dating is almost expand the number of people you can meet if you want, it does not mean it can guarantee you true love.

Online dating is ideal for singles who are looking to interact with other singles, but can not effectively promising interactions would end in marriage - and NOT in a broken heart.

There are also questions about how to go online to look for potential mates affects one's view of love and romance: there is no denying that online dating is more "pragmatic" and the dream-killing than, say, go on blind dates.

"Comparing the tens and even hundreds of dates may encourage 'shopping' mentality in which people become judgmental and picky, focusing exclusively on a narrow set of criteria such as attractiveness or interest. And according to the computer for several weeks or months before meeting face-to- advance has been proven to create unrealistic expectations, he said, "Eureka wrote, citing the study.

As with everything else, there are pros and cons. Does that go beyond the others are up to a single looking for love to decide.
